Suzuki Jimny: popular 4X4’s redesign already a cult hit
In 1970 the original Suzuki Jimny compact offroader was released to huge acclaim. The car was admired for its no nonsense attitude, simple but soulful styling and impressive offroad capabilities, and since then the marque has sold almost 3 million new Suzuki Jimny's.
Finally, after 10 years without a redesigned Suzuki Jimny, the Japanese marque have released the 2019 edition. Released in Australia on January 26, this compact SUV's retro design and classic driving experience have already proved a huge hit.
Loveable retro styling
The first generation Suzuki Jimny featured a boxy, simple design that resembled a small Jeep Wrangler. The new model brings the rough and ready essence of that design into the 21st century, simplifying and purifying the look into something unique.
It's a retro look that has already proved popular, sending the internet into a world wide Jimny craze prior to its release.
Real offroad capability
Despite its small size the new Suzuki Jimny promises a potent 4X4 punch. It's packing a four cylinder 1.5-litre engine that belts out just over 100 hp – plenty to power the Jimny's tiny 1.1 tonne frame on almost any terrain.
Buyers have the choice between a manual or automatic five-speed gear box, but we'd go for the former every time. The responsive, easy transmission makes driving the car even more fun, giving you an edge if you do happen to go offroad. Impressively the Suzuki Jimny is actually built to handle rough terrain – it can reportedly handle inclines of up to 38 degrees.
Typical Suzuki Value
You'd be forgiven for thinking that a car with such iconic styling and impressive offroad capability would be expensive, but you'd be wrong. This loveable little compact SUV retails for between $23,990 and $25,990 – a steal for the driveability on offer.
