Jaguar got its name because its founder, Sir William Lyons, believed that the car is the closest thing man will ever create to something that is alive. Way back in 1931, before the name Jaguar even existed, he set out to create cars with grace, space and pace.

Fast forward 80 years and Sir Lyon's dream is well and truly alive – Jaguar has become one of the foremost producers of luxury performance cars in the world. For decades it has produced sports sedans and two door sports cars but in 2016 Jaguar changes its tact.

The Jaguar F-Pace, the marque's first SUV, debuted at the international Motor Show in Germany in 2015. Since then Jaguar has won a World Car of the Year award for the SUV as well as releasing two more acclaimed SUV models. Which one is right for you?

Jaguar F-Pace: The marque's flagship SUV

The Jaguar F-Pace was the marque's first foray into the SUV market and their flagship SUV. Jaguar describe it as a pure distillation of Jaguar performance, with added space, comfort and luxury.

This is a proper SUV with four doors, generous boot space and plenty room for extra gear. Despite its relatively large size it's incredibly quick off the line, regardless of which engine option you decide to go with. Our choice would, unsurprisingly, be the 2.0 litre supercharged V6 petrol edition, which charges with 380 hp and leaps from 0-100 kph in just 5.5 seconds.

The car's design is typical Jaguar with an SUV twist. It sports curved lines over its elongated hood, an aggressive front end and a large but sleek body that hints at its impressive power. Jaguar has also ventured into new territory including sophisticated offroad technology in the car that directs power to the rear wheels on the road, then automatically diverts to all wheel drive when offroad.

Other technology like all surface progress control and adaptive surface response mean that this SUV is just as comfortable in the city as it off the beaten track.

Jaguar E-Pace: Compact performance

Nearly every marque has released a compact SUV in the last three or four years, Jaguar Included. The Jaguar E-Pace is their entry into the crowded sector and it's quickly become one of the most acclaimed compact SUVs in the world.

Its design is similar to its larger sibling – with a sleek and menacing body, elongated hood and flares above the rear wheels. Despite that its slightly shorter and smaller, without losing any of its impressive road presence.

The Jaguar E-Pace is also packed with impressive driver assistance and cabin technology. That includes highlights like lane keep assist, automatic emergency brake assist, pedestrian airbag, 10 inch infotainment touchscreen and heads up display.

This makes this SUV a vehicle that's incredibly safe and simple to drive, meaning the driver can sit back and enjoy the experience.

Jaguar I-Pace: A leap forward for electric vehicles

Electric vehicles are the future, but early mass market models have had an image problem. The Jaguar I-Pace is the solution, a compact SUV that boasts a beautiful design, an impressive engine and a full suite of high tech features.

The SUV features a range of 470km, a 0-100 kph time of just 4.8 seconds and a massive 90kW battery comprised of high energy lithium-ion pouch cells. This makes the I-Pace faster than most sports cars, with a range that beats almost all other EVs on the market.

Its design is futuristic and unique, without losing the classic aggression and grace that Jaguars are known for. The cabin is packed with high tech from dual touch screens in the dash, to a remote monitoring system that allows you to check on your car and control it via a smartphone or smart watch app.
