In the 40s the very first Jeep 4X4 carried allied troops over the roughest terrain to battle in hostile territory. 30 years later the company went back to their roots and found huge success when they unleashed a new vision in stripped back 4X4 technology – the Jeep Cherokee.

Since then the American marque has gone from strength to strength, becoming one of the most iconic and successful SUV manufacturers in the world. We took a look at three of their most popular SUVs to help you decide which is right for you.

Jeep Wrangler

The modern Jeep Wrangler closely resembles the 1970 Cherokee, with angular lines, exposed suspension and an optional soft top. It's a modern vehicle packed with features and dripping in nostalgic charm. That's probably why it's become one of Jeep's most popular cars.

It's a mid-level four seater SUV, perfect for those who want to get stuck into some rough roads and still turn heads in the city. Under the hood of the sports model there's a 3.6L V6 that boasts 209 kW of power and 347 Nm of torque. Plenty to tow the boat or handle any road, no matter how rough.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

If you want a grunty and capable off road SUV but don't want to sacrifice luxury, you need a Jeep Grand Cherokee. A huge Pentastar V6 Engine comes standard on all models and so do little luxuries like heated front seats, Park Assist auto parking system, keyless entry and much more.

For as much power as possible check out the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. This monster is strapped to an outrageous 6.2L Hellcat supercharged Hemi V8 that can push all 2.6 tonnes of the car from 0-100 kph in 3.7 seconds. That's around the same 0-100 time as the original Lamborghini Murcielago.

Jeep Renegade

First time SUV buyer? Grab a Jeep Renegade, the American marque's entry level model. Despite being so affordable, this attractive little SUV is full of high tech features that make driving it a breeze. There's a Bluetooth connective touchscreen in the dash, on off four wheel drive mode, a rear park assist system and so much more.
